On Christmas of 1993 I lived in Rabat and decided to travel to the south of Morocco. To get there you have to drive along the beautiful coastal road right by the Atlantic Ocean. With a break at Walidia to taste the famous oysters freshly picked from the sea under the tamarind trees. As you proceed, a stop-over in the Safi village is necessary and a good reason to visit the potter’s there. They are still working clay the ancestral way. The day ends up in the beautiful town of Essaouira, ex Mogador, (where the film Othello was made). Inside the walls of the fortress the smell of “thuya” wood engulfs the air. An unforgettable night at the “Villa Maroc” is a must ! As the journey continues, the edge of the road is lined with “Arcane trees” which goats love to climb! When arriving at Tizi N Test, I strongly recommend you make a stop in the small village to have a delicious traditional mint tea. Life seems so peaceful up there, you find an old man crossing the road with no fear of danger. his peaceful journey and experience has inspired me to capture the moment through the brush to canvas.
